The former US vice-president, Dick Cheney, has resigned from his job as chairman of the powerful lobbying firm, Cheney Group, after just two years in the role. Cheney said on Twitter that his departure had been announced by the president of the World Bank. He said he would give “full support” to the World Bank president, Jim Yong Kim. Cheney, who was appointed to the post on Monday, said he would make no comment about the new appointee, but said: “I am deeply sorry for any inconvenience and disappointment this has caused the board of the World Bank.” Cheney is one of the most powerful politicians in the world. A former vice-president, his job was a powerful one. The world Bank was created as the result of a 1993 deal between the US and Japan, which became the Bank for International Settlements when George W Bush was president. It operates the $40tn global banking system and is considered the world”s most important development institution.
