What if, instead of depending on X-rays and ultrasound in order to image the inner workings of humans and electronic equipment, we could utilize touch instead? A new paper, featured in the publication Cell Reports Physical Science on February 15th, presents the idea of a bionic finger that is capable of building 3D maps of the internal composition and format of complicated objects, simply by feeling the outside.
