Snapchat has released a chatbot based on OpenAI's GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) artificial intelligence technology.

Snapchat has introduced a new chatbot, known as “My AI,” that is fully equipped with the most recent edition of OpenAI’s GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) technology that has been personalized for its consumers. This new experimental feature is solely obtainable through Snapchat+—a $3.99 per month subscription program.

The Chat tab will display the brand new chatbot at the top. My AI has been programmed to respond to trivia questions and compose haikus. Snapchat claims that the AI’s characteristics and style reflect their ethos of “friendship, learning, and entertainment”, as well as their secure safety guidelines.

The corporation communicated in a blog post regarding their AI’s ability to provide personalized birthday gift ideas for your closest friend, create a plan for a hiking excursion over a number of days, come up with recipes for dinner, and even craft a haiku about cheese as a present for a buddy who is passionate about cheddar. Modify My AI by naming it and adjusting the wallpaper you see when you visit its Chat.

Snapchat mentioned that, similar to other AI-driven conversation bots, My AI can be deceived into spouting anything. They likely were referencing the turmoil that was caused by the recent implementation of OpenAIÂ’s GPT-4 model in Microsoft Bing. Shortly after the launch, people started sharing strange and unsettling answers from the search engine. This appears to be an effort on Snapchat’s part to be proactive and avoid a similar predicament. Before tackling the same issue with their own chatbot, Snapchat mentioned that My AI had “numerous deficiencies.” They even said “sorry ahead of time” to anyone who used the new chatbot.

It’s important to remember that Snapchat’s My AI is not intended to act as a web explorer in the same way that Microsoft’s Bing does. Instead, it resembles more of a friend within the Snapchat system, with whom one can converse like they would with their actual acquaintances.

Every exchange with My AI will be registered and used to enhance the user knowledge. Also, Snapchat recommends users to not share any sensitive information with My AI or consult it for counsel. While the AI has been programmed to evade biases, mistaken, malicious, or incorrect info, there is a chance of errors occurring. To send in any comments, users are asked to press and hold on any message from My AI.

The blog post highlights that the app is used by 750 million people each month and 75% of those aged 13-34 are located in twenty or more countries. It is believed that incorporating this AI technology into the Snapchat messaging system could be a factor causing their users to keep returning to the platform.

Snapchat claims that ultimately, Artificial Intelligence will be highly beneficial to how users experience the mobile application, and even prepare connections that are stronger. In the near future, using AI could result in an increase in the number of paying customers, which has already exceeded two million.

Snapchat reports having 750 million monthly active users.
